I want to fit a SRAM Force 12 speed cassette to a Tacx XDR freehub to go onto a turbo trainer. I am not used to SRAM stuff as I’ve only ever had Campagnolo before. When I mount the cassette onto the hub it does not seem to sit very flush and the lockring seems very stiff so I want to check that I’m doing it right before I break anything.

That's not right - the cassette should sit right up against the shoulder

Shimano & SRAM both have one spline on the freehub which is narrower than the others and there is a corresponding narrow slot on the cassette. Match those up and it should slide easily up to the shoulder of the freehub. Do it one sprocket at a time to make sure you get it right
