We've all been there - bought some new tyres but they just wont sit straight on the rims - some serious eggin going on!

I had this problem once before with another bike and solved it by using different tyres.

Problem this time is that the the problem tyres are the new ones I just bought!

Any tips how to fix it?

It seems like some rim/tyre combos are prone to this problem (usually cheap rims - which I have; it's my commuter)

Apologies if I'm teaching you to suck eggs here, but are you sure there are no bits of inner tube trapped under the tyre bead? If the tyre is the right size for the rim and the tube is inflated, I can't envisage any way in which the result would be other than round. It'd be like getting non-circular bubbles from a bubble-blowing machine

Even if you've fitted them correctly, new tyres can still be a little eggy. Something to do with the way they've been hung up in a shop.

Ride 'em for a few miles to break them in and then deflate and re-inflate a couple of times.

I had to do this with my Marathon Plus, now they sit nicely

Drives me mad I spent ages trying to sort this out with my spez armadillos in the end I gave up it's only slight and it still bothers me but I've tried everything.

Sorry not much help I suppose if your confident they are seated properly it might just be the mold as I was told ?.

No, they are not seated correctly - that is the problem. The tyres are fine (folding bead).

But trying to get them seated correctly isn't easy with this tyre/rim combo. If you move one section another section goes off, and so on.....

Normal tyres just go on; pump up; job done.

Like I said I've seen this before. I have no doubt that cheapo rims are to blame when combined with certain tyres.

I have got the first one on staright now after 1 hour of inflating and deflating and adjusting - right pain in the arse. Not looking forward to a puncture!

Hopefully after some use they will be easier next time.

I'm going to leave the other tyre until tomorrow - too much for one day!

I've said it before ... lubrication. Use talcum powder on the tyre beads, or even better Schwalbe Tyre Fit. If necessary, use it on the rims too. Works every time.

Apply talc liberally with a paint brush. Tyre Fit comes with its own applicator.

Nevr use washing up liquid unless you want your rims to dissolve. If you have a mate who works at ATS or similar, you could always ask him for a dolop of tyre soap.

What's the deal with washing up liquid then? I have used it in the past on motorcycle tyres\rims and never even thought that it could cause harm...a few suds maybe

Simply that it contsind salt, Not good for rims of any type, particularly aluminium.

The only time I've ever has a tyre not go on 1st time was when I fitted a new Marathon plus because it had been folded in the post. I have to re-cut /fit my lorry tyres at work and that special tub of tyre soap, a right angle of iron and a blummin' big sledge hammer makes an impossible job possible.

I just used a bit of soap lather and it neatly popped in whilst inflating.
