Those look great even if they look a little bit kinky...or is that just me?? Lol
Was only kidding: marathons winter studded tyres (like Norm quoted) do perfectly well on ice: I've got them, used the "ice bike" for a couple of weeks now.
Read more about them here and here :hello:

Not sure if I'm wrong to type this out loud, but it looks like its going to be -2 for tomorrow's commute and I'm actually looking forward to it on the Marathon Winters, although I might be picking up a coffee on the way in to work. :giggle:

No hasn't put me off..no way. Can't wait to get back to it. Hips hace got steadily worse over the day and the muscles up my back and side have started griping so some ibuprofen and a hot bath for me.
Like it...embrace the pain (must admit that I'm a wuss and would probably have a day off...complaining to everyone that would listen about how sore I am!!).

Well, a wee bit ot (sorry Ebony, hope you have recovered), this morning I left at about 6.30, it was mighty :cold:
Got into work at 7, which was ok, only 5 min more than my normal time off peak, considering I was riding so very slowly through that icy park: studs or no studs, if I break a limb I don't get paid for being off work:excl:
Anyhow, stopped for another cyclist, turns out he was stopped just to warm his hands, not because of a mechanical.
Was gonna suggest him the Aldi's cycling gloves, but I thought better zip it
Riding home tonight I thought I could feel sleet falling, but the temperature had definitely risen.
Was too hot in all my gear!

Bought a pair from Asda (wool thermal with leatherette palms) whole £3.99 but warm and pretty comfortable. Won't buy expensive because one of the dogs likes to suck on the fingers if you leave em lying around. Wouldn't mind but hes 7 so dunno why he still does it.

I think that this raises an important point, which I was thinking about when riding yesterday.

Ice studs will not make you invulnerable to falls on ice. Not only do you still have the issue of a foot slipping when you are stationary but there is only so far that studs will help. I was certainly not expecting them to work miracles and slowed down quite a lot when crossing icy patches and when cornering under trees yesterday.
