First time out on the roads :l

Hello. This is possibly the first thread of this length where I agree with all of the comments! Read Cyclecraft - I learnt things from it and I've been riding on roads longer than most (but that probably excludes Gerry Attrick).

I think one of the tricks to enjoyable/ safe/ incident-free ish road riding is to be assertive without any aggression, coupled with being willing to let the lunatics get on with being lunatics and just keeping out of their way.
