The wind up here has eventually died down so I managed to get out on my new (second-hand!) Giro. I still have a few teething problems to sort out, the main one being that I can`t get the chain onto the smallest sprocket. Also, there`s a wee bit of noise coming from the gears - any advice?? And can the eagle-eyed spot the rather crude temporary measure on the bike?

Love the pump

Damn, you spotted lol - it`s just a temporary measure that will probably last years! I didn`t want to take the pump off my MTB and then realised I couldn`t find the screws and cradle for my other pump (the one tied to the bike!) Better doing that than heading off without any pump

Smallest sprocket problem, either cable but probably the limit screw.

Can I fix that with a cable tie??

If you do use cable ties make sure that 1) you have a knife or 2) you use refastenable ones. New someone who had his car wheel trims nicked so to try stop it happening again he cable tied them on through the holes in the steel wheel. He got a puncture miles from anywhere and had nothing to cut the wraps with. Whoops

Did he not have a lighter with him? Fire beats cable ties.
