First Road Bike

Hi,

I recently completed my first long cycle, from Santander to Weymouth, on a Dawes Karakum which was recommended by a friend. I'm now looking in to getting a road bike, for general cycling and possibly to use for some triathlons next year.

I'm a complete novice when it comes to brands, and specs so any advice on a good starter bike for around £1000 (preferably under) would be much appreciated!

Also I live in Hampshire, so any good routes around that area would be good to know about.

Hargroves cycles are pretty good, they have a shop near Winchester Station if I remember correctly.

I like the look of this and it would leave you a hundred and fifty in pocket for clothes n stuff.

Mind you, if I was gonna spend a grand I'd probably get the Felt Z85 as I recently bought it's cheaper cousin the Z100 and think it's ace.

wow....pretty fair start :-)

I'm in somewhere like the same boat...I just completed Edinburgh to London (SSAFA Ride of Britain ) on a mate's road bike (Carrera Vanquish) which was fine but now he wants it back !

So...looking for a new road bike.

Also live in Hampshire , near the New Forest - so couple of mates and I go out every week at the moment though not an organised club.

Local big road club is Sotonia (qv) - but not sure I'm up for a club at the moment.

Be interested to hear what bike you end up with....Erin Dawes says I have to sell the three I've got first !
