Well only had my first road bike (Giant Defy 4) for a week and already been on two rides which was around 7 miles each. First ride I found hard going as not been on a bike for a few years and use to riding hybrids and the second ride I found better after making some changes to seat and bars.

That's a good start, just build up the distances from here. Remember you will have good days, when cycling seems like the easiest thing in the world and bad days when you just cannot get the bloody thing to work at all. It is amazing what a few small adjustments make though.

Build up the miles gradually. I started out on a Defy a few years back, and it is still my daily ride.

Keep it up, i started 4 years ago and struggled to cycle 7 miles to work, 4 years later i've lost 7 stone, done a 150 mile ride, do 6-7k miles a year and now race. it definatley gets easier, just remember to enjoy it, your body will soon adapt you'll be doing longer distances and getting faster all the time. best advice i can give is work on cadence, spinning takes a lot less out of your legs and keeps them fresher. well done!!

Well done you!
I love reading about all the new bike-rider stories. I've loved cycling all my life but have only only recently (in the last couple of years) been bitten by the true 'roadie' obsession. Sadly...I'm a rubbish roadie and that ain't likely to change MUCH now at my advanced age. Joyfully ....I get a tiny bit fitter and 'better' as time goes by. My home will probably always be here in the Beginners section-but my heart leaps when I read about peoples first rides. Keep at it. All sorts of things will happen...most of them life enhancing. All us perennial beginners know about how hard it is when you first bite the bullet.....how little changes can help your set-up....how to make the most of 'starter' kit and bikes. It's not about the mileage-or the bike-or your average speed. Its about getting out and enjoying yourself?

All Best

Well an update after having the bike for 2 months but had a month off with a lung infection I am now riding a few 20 mile odd routes a week and this week decided to ride with a local road club on a 25 mile route. Was doing fine until just pass half way and the group split a bit and I was 2 min behind but still completed the route think I was the biggest person on a bike everyone else was stick thin but me I had just under 18 stone to carry round LOL.
