Well at 41 years & 17 stone, I decided running /jogging was just too booring. Then I remembered the fact that before I could drive I rode a (peugeot 10speed) everywhere.

So I now have a Felt Z100 & went for my forst ride today. Only did about 4 miles, but loved it! Amazed how quick the bike was (or at least felt), and equally how unfit I am. 4 miles was enough! Leggs like jelly, and my back side a little sore. But I'm determined to keep at it.

My commute is 8 miles & I aim to be doing that on a regular basis by summer. well that's the aim.

Well done! I hope you have a pleasant route to work & back. I started back on the bicycle myself a couple of years ago aged 42 (8-mile round trip commute) and still love it. It won't be long at all until you will find 8 miles seems like just a short spin.

thanks. It is very flat here (Chichester) unless you venture north into the south downs (which I may do if/when i am up to that). My commute would be 8 miles each way. Not much cycle lane, and what there is isn't very good (up & down off the kerb etc). So want to build up my speed & stamina before I tackle the traffic.

Well done, great to see someone else getting back on the saddle. Once you start commuting on your bike you won't want to get to work any other way! Keep up the good work.

well done, keep it up... and you might find that if you have the factory fitted saddle, it's a wee bit on the small side and it might be worth while in nipping to your local bike shop for a fitting!

If I had a saddle to fit me, the bike would look like one of those USAF airbourne radar planes!

The Z100's saddle is resonably well padded. Think I'll give it a while first, but will keep that tip in mind.

Well done, you did twice what I could on my first ride.

Give it a few weeks and you will ride 8 miles to work, then think "Hmm... I`ll go the long way back!"

Have fun

i`m 44 and was 17 stone........i started riding again last september and started doing 5 miles or so (coupled with quite a lot of time on a good exercise bike) when i got to the point i could do 15 miles(just after Christmas) i went out with a group of riders and from the off did 40 miles with them....... since then i`ve done around a thousand miles!! (I do strange shifts that allow me to ride lots during the week) not fast, but steady. i love it
