Thanks all - good advice in many respects.

I changed the saddle to the Spoon (stupid bloody name) today and it made a reasonable difference to the comfort in my derriere. I am having the devil's own job getting it level though as the seatpost clamp tilts the saddle upwards on tightening. Even trying to allow for that by setting it lower to begin with proved difficult but I'll persevere.

Any how, 17 miles this evening, saddle an improvement bum wise but certainly not wrist or foot wise and as above needs levelling. As suggested I'll give it time but will also probably give a bike fit at a Spesh Concept store a bash if it's not prohibitively expensive.

I just need to time that right as I have a Giant Defy on order and arriving in 3 weeks on the C2W Scheme so I'll probably get that done at the same time :becool:

Hunt around, there are places that do the fit for the half that - although if Spesh do both bikes for that?

Where do you live - maybe someone can recommend. Also, go back to the LBS where you bought it and get their advice

Ref the saddle, good padded shorts and toughen up your behind

Why have you bought a fast hybrid and a road bike at the same time out of interest?

I am not sure that they will do both bikes for that but will call them this week to explore. I live in Merseyside so if anyone knows somewhere who does a professional bike fitting at reasonable cost then I'd be interested to know. The shop I bought from are good and did what they can in terms of sitting me on the trainer etc but you never really know how you are gonna feel on a bike until you have spent time on it. What I'd like is a slightly more scientific approach and someone taking some time to observe properly.

Re: Bikes. I bought the hybrid as it will be good for that initial fitness/getting back into it plus there are a number of holidays during the year where her indoors takes a bike so it will suit that purpose. The roadie is for me! ^_^

However, if you pay to get the Trek to fit you, it won't necessarily fit anyone else. Even if you and the missus are the same height, women's proportions are rather different

I reckon you may just need more time in the saddle if new to cycling.

Feet - are you riding clipless? If so, look at cleat position, plenty of online guides if have the patience. If flat pedals, look at shoes, you'll want flat, stiff soles, make sure shoes not too tight and socks not too thick

Ref the fit, call the Giant store in Liverpool, I am told the Guildford store charges £60

Or Google bought this place up in Warrington, £100 for a fit

Hmm not sure if you misunderstood. The hybrid isn't a shared bike, it's mine needs a dedicated fitting to me. The Mrs has her own :-)

£200. It's prohibitively expensive.

Specialized store in Birmingham quoted me £120 yesterday for a full fit.
