I had a few pubcture issues over the winter. I discovered 10 miles from home that the spare gas canisters I bought were too fat to fit in the pump!
Next time out the pump was faulty.
I then spent a few hours in thr hut checking out gas cylinders, pumpsd, spare tubes, patches etc. to make sure I could at fix a puncture at roadside. All the stuff fits into a small bag under saddle (tube, patches + glue, levers, gas cylinder(s), cash) and a WORKING pump fits to downtube.

Fingers crossed that now I'm prepared I'll not get a visit from the P fairy

Really important to work out what caused the puncture. Always line up up the tyre trademark with the valve and carefully remove the tube so that when you find the hole in it you can line it up with the tyre and work out the rough area of the tread involved. Then spend some time looking for the flint/thorn/nail whatever. Flexing inside and out. Of course sometimes the damage is done without anything being left in the tyre, but you can usually find the entry point. No good carrying a dozen spare tubes if you don't remove the cause.

I would like to add that you should be careful when searching tyre for object that caused p******e. I dived in and ripped my thumb open on a thorn. Nothing too serious but it did smart a bit.

Puncture resistant tyres maybe ?

They've always done the business for me in the past.

My puncture resistant tyres managed to get four punctures whilst going to work last Friday. I had to resort to phoning my mother for a lift, to get me there in time (at 37 years old, that was a little embarrassing ).

Yeah, that has happened to me too.

I think it just helps cut down the risk (well, sort of!!)

I also managed to get 'puncture resistant inner tubes' too - and once I had both together I was fine.

Hi
Not wanting to hijack the OP thread, I do have a dumb question for you....

I carry pump and spare tube, but not patches. When you say Patches, do you mean the old school rubber and glue ones, or the new self-adhesive style?
Any recommendations?

Cheers!

Get reputable makes and make your own choice. I like glue and patches, others swear by self adhesive ones. I think it is just a matter of personal preference.

Park Tool 'self adhesive', Rema Tip Top patches and glue. I carry both. The glueless patches take up no room anyway.
