Well done,15 miles is a great first ride,i remember last year when i got my bike (not been on one for a good 15 years), i rode it back from the bike shop thinking that the 3 miles would be easy, well it wasn't!!! when i arrived home i had to lay out on the sofa for an hour in the recovery position  , I have the Trek 7.3 and i would highly recommend it, great for the roads and the tyres on it are awesome, not had a puncture in 1500 miles ( shouldn;t have said that!!!) , keep up the good work mate

Would a Trek 7.2 7.3 fx be the right way to go - don't really want a mountain bike or a racer.
If you are going for new then the Trek's are good bikes. My brother has a 7.1fx which is nice and light and he is getting on really well with (except he's not keen on the saddle).

Looking at the specs I'm not sure I'd be that bothered about spending the extra £100 on the 7.3fx compared to the 7.2fx but that is just my personal opinion.

Would a Trek 7.2 fx be ok for gravel pathways/dirt tracks . Not interested in mountain biking but we have a few off road dirt tracks and gravel ways near here that I would use as well as road.

Yeah, no problem. As long as you don't expect it to perform like a mountain bike it manages perfectly well.

The stock tyres are road biased so they don't like mud but my brother's bike coped with Grizedale's forestry roads and certain lake district bridleways last autumn.
