Day off work today, so did Bollington to Lamaload, bloody 'ell wasn't expecting it to be that tough! Very hilly first half with little downhill bits. came out on the Cat and Fiddle road where it was much easier then down to Rainow, back up out of Rainow was very tough aswell! Then pretty much all downhill from there. 10 very tough miles, I sound like a right wimp! :becool: Damn cold at the top too!

Does anyone know of a program to convert Google Earth paths to show distance and elevation?

Cheers.

You're in an excellent part of the world for cycling Nezbutz.

It's not flat round there is it? 10 miles of that = a good effort.

Ah...I had 10 years out of the saddle and when I first got back on, I swore that I couldn't ride again if that was how my backside felt. Then I remembered that I used to ride and never owned a single pair of padded or lycra anything and it wouldn't be that bad.

It soon goes away

Theough I do have some Endura padded boxers for anything longer than pootling to work and into town

Have to agree with the Lycra angle, I started with padded baggies but this cycling addiction got to me quicker than I ever imagined.
Now its non stop surfing for cycling jerseys and bits and bobs ..... Heeeeellllllllp !!

I used to wear jeans and cords all the time. I never had any issues whatsoever, I actually think lycra is less comfortable. Most people disagree with that.

Anyway there are all kinds of non-lycra/tights looks that are a bit outdoory kind of thing on websites.

I have to agree. I tried lycra and not only found it uncomfortable but it made my skin sore.

For short trips I just wear normal clothes, jeans or whatever's appropriate to where I'm going. For longer ones normal sports shorts and tops, tracksuit style overtrousers for cold mornings, tracksuit in winter etc.

Whatever's comfy seems a good principle to me.

I wear jeans or other street clothes to pop into town or something but for anything over 20 miles padded shorts or longs are deinitely preferable. For my short commute to work I wear some thin tracksuit type trousers that dry very quickly either when riding after a rain shower or on the line after washing.Jeans take ages to dry on you during a ride and chaffe between your legs when wet.

I think doing some of your riding without padding helps to harden up your rear end .
