Finally got round to getting a mountain bike after umming and arrring for a few months. A chap at my missus work was selling a Carrera Kraken for £150 virtually brand new. Went to get it today and love it. Did a flat 10 mile ride and was very impressed with the bike, not so much my sore ass.

I was pretty nervous about going out at first but soon got into it, came back covered in mud, but with a big smile on my face!

Cant wait for next weekend now!

Hello, sounds like a good first ride. Sounds like you might need chamois, padded shorts, a new saddle or just to get used to it!

Thanks for the replies, I will look into those padded shorts, any recommendations?

What do you guys generally wear when out cycling? I just went out in jeans and a decent Crag Hopper fleece. I dont want to go for the 80's Bruce Dickinson look...

I used to wear jeans and cords all the time. I never had any issues whatsoever, I actually think lycra is less comfortable. Most people disagree with that.

Anyway there are all kinds of non-lycra/tights looks that are a bit outdoory kind of thing on websites.

DHB padded undershorts from Wiggle over normal shorts for me. Can't get on with long pants on a bike even in snow and you soon warm up.
Really tho, just wear whatever you're comfy in.
Later, when you develop mega thighs and a flat stomach you may feel the need to show off the fruits of your labours in some lycra! ;)

Hi, Sports soccer (or is its sports direct now?) are doing some Karimor Lycra padded shorts for a tenner, ideal for under trackkies or baggy shorts.

NEVER on their own though! (Unless you like the road bike look ;) )

ANd yeah, the kraken is a good bike for the price!
