Thanks to all you guys for the advice when I was buying my bike.

Been out for my first proper ride on it today according to Strava it was 6.1miles, avaegae speed of 12.8mph, riding time of 28:49 and a elevation change of +255ft.

Overall I am happy with that for the first proper ride in in couple of decades and not too painful or out of breath

I got a Jamis Tail X3 from Evans, swapped the knobbly tyres for thinner city jets, popped some old style pedals with toe clip on (cos I'm too old skool for clipless lol)

Cool , if thats wot floats y'boat, then fill y'boots and make a spread sheet LOL:laugh: No mate, you do wots good for you. Its just recently that I realised that the 'numbers' were becoming more important to me than the pleasure of riding. Time to take stock I thought.

Living where I do liking hills will be a necessary evil, if I want to get home, it's just about the highest point for miles around

same with me, i live on a hill and hatd it a few months ago, now i dont mind it and like tackling the hills. love how much easier it seems to get over time

I set out on a 30mile with some mega hills later on in the ride... but as i approach a known Strava segment I can't help myself. I go through the motions of... "Theo, preserve you're energy for the hills" and "Go for consistent speed" but it never works... before I know it I'm on a 2 mile sprint trying to hit 30mph! :heat:
But then I drop speed to recover, get fluids in and think... "That was awesome interval training!" lol.

Each to their own I guess. I enjoy the ride, and destroying myself on a sprint.
