Today I had my first off road ride on my mountain bike. The actual route was only 4 miles up and back down but boy, was I knackered. It's a straight uphill climb which starts on tarmac then goes onto rough, rutted and stony terrain with the odd grassy bit thrown. According to my endomondo app, the ascent was just over 900 feet so it's no big surprise I found it difficult, as my first experience of off road riding. We rode up stoneymollan road in balloch, which is part of the John Muir trail. Although I found it tough going and had to stop a few times the view of loch lomond from the top was well worth it. I'll make sure I get plenty fuel in my belly next time and I know I'll cope with it better. A great way to spend some time with my hubby.

wow, if you climbed 900ft on a first attempt, then that's good by any standards, well done

Here's the view we were treated to. It will be even better next time as we'll make it to the top

I had my breakfast about 8 but my husband did so much faffing around that we didn't get out until about 12, by which point I was already getting hungry and all I had with me was a cereal bar - lesson learned.
