Remember getting plenty of practice changing the inner tube on my Allez when I first got it a couple of years back. The stock tyres were rubbish. A switch to Armadillos, keeping out of the gutter and, importantly, being anal about checking/pumping the tyres up to max pressure once a week has done the trick (famous last words). A small saddle bag keeps spare tubes, levers and Co2 just in case! Wet weather seems worse when glass, stones etc. stick to the tyre rather than bounce off as they do in the dry.

I wish they would put decentish tyres on bikes as standard, given it's such a fundamental component doesn't feel right that they put garbage tyres on a bike being sold for 600+ quid.

Ditto what Alfresco said... used to get loads, now just 2 in the last year and a half, about 3000 miles done. Decent tyre pressure works for me!

I'm lucky the stock tyres on my Pashley Paramount are Marathon Plus. I've had it more than two years now, maybe 4,000 miles or so commuting in all weathers and no punctures at all.

Had another puncture yesterday. Front wheel this time. Thats two in less than 2 weeks!
I dont ride in the gutter, I stick to road with good tarmac surface so I am beginning to think the tyres i have are crap.
Thinking of getting Continental Ultra Sport Rigid tyres. Anyone has any experience of them?
My wheels are 700x28c
Present tyres are Kenda Kwest

I realised i had a puncture once just as i left my mums on the 10 mile ride home. I kept going - soon after the supports to my rack broke due to the weight of my load and the lack of shock absorption. I got to within 1/4 mile of my house when some spokes snapped and wrapped themselves around the hub and completely locked the rear wheel up. I left it in a hedge. Went back when id changed into some dry clothes to salvage what i could later. Never had a front wheel puncture though - touch wood.
