GWS - sounds like you'll be in pain for a while
Naproxen is a decent anti-inflammatory and paracetamol is one of the best painkillers there is..
Ribs are difficult because all you can do is pop pills and wait for them to stop hurting
Hope the bike's not too expensive to fix

All the best @GravityFighter. Hitting the deck hard is a treat I have in store for me, three decades down your road. I got off lightly when clipless and I seem to have bounced quite well after some reckless partying It's going to come to me some time, and it is going to hurt. I send my very best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Does sort of do it, I was on that and 1000mg of paracetamol 30/500mgx2 x4 times a day, different sort of pain.

GWS mate. Ribs are a bugger, mine hurt for ages when I broke a couple.
You'll soon be back out there!

Sorry for your pain, but just have one question, and I'm not being flip as I don't know the answer.

Why towpaths and off road trails through forest etc. Being a former mountain biker I loved doing that stuff. Like you I bought a cannon recently but afraid to go off the roads and lanes because its a road bike and got enough punctures and slides out there without pretending I had wide grippy tyres on. Do many people do tracks on a roady?

I do (Giant TCX1) and it is great fun - only negative are the stones battering the paint of my down tube.

Thanks again all!

After a few days feeling sorry for myself then a few very busy days back at work, I assessed the damage to my steed properly at the weekend. Luckily, it's nothing serious; one of the hoods was knocked out of place and the only other damage is a scratched brake lever. The bike goes in for a service on Thurs PM anyway so I'll get my LBS to do a thorough check.

I managed the gym again on Saturday so will be back on the saddle a short spin tomorrow night with a bit of luck.

Thinking of doing this on my shifters after yesterday, I have some where the cables run close to the head tube, though in all honest it was a bit on the late side for that one.

I have some on my head tube, on top of my top tube (CX) and seat tube.

Might go and get a big one as you suggest - I did know about them just never got round to it.
