I have had the standard issue mountain bikes throughout my childhood, but now that I'm a bit older I'm interested in trying something different. Hybrids appeal to me, but I haven't the experience to know which are the betters ones or what to look out for.

I'm currently looking at the below site, and two bikes in particular. Which one do you think is the best? Or if you can see any better ones for around the same price it would be appreciated.

The third link goes to the 'hybrid' section of the site, but I don't think you could go wrong with either the Kona or the Scott. Both well-respected manufacturers. The Scott seems to have a slightly higher spec for the money. Best thing is to go and try a few for size, and shop around - Evans do price matching.

I was seriously looking at the Scott earlier in the year, it looks a top bike, but my LBS showed me a Claud Butler Urban 100 (nowhere as good specs) But I just loved the looks and it was over £100 quid cheaper, I have not looked back I love it, What I'm trying to say is get what you like the look of and don't get hung up on the specs. Just go out and ride the thing and enjoy yourself

ive had a few used bikes over the last few months just trying to find what i like best. the road bike was quick but i didnt really like the ride position. i went onto a mountain bike. much prefer the upright ride but it was far too slow. i even had to pedal downhill on this. i now have a Claud butler urban 300 and i like it a lot. it does have front shocks which i didnt really want but it makes for a really comfy ride and it is pretty quick too. i will stick to hybrids now and saving up for something like the scott you have linked. i am glad i tried a few other options first and have been fortunate to make money on the road bike and mountain bike which i would never have done if i had bought from new.

Really the best way to know which one is right for you is to test ride all of them and then go with the one that feels the best...

I've got a Kona Dew Plus and can't fault it. Best thing though is to find some to ride. Also, looking at the availability on the Evan's site, they don't have many left of either.
