The Blackburn Mars 4.0 is a reasonable rear light for about £15.

I have a Hope Vision 1 as a front light but that's going to blow a hole in your budget.

Unless you are on bad roads, anything above 300 lumens is enough to start with. There are really good CREE lights on ebay, just get a rubber bracket with it for fixing it on your steering wheel. Should cost you including batteries and charger around £15 and 3 to 4 weeks waiting time !
Rear light, I am not sure, I just bought a Blackburn Mars 4. Pretty bright, but not sure if the spread is enough.

C&B Seen commuting package. 1200 lumen front, 500 rear 3 hours burn time before recharging on full power.

I'm looking for a new (mainly front light) for this years commute and am very tempted by this package, my only reservation is mounting the rear light as I always have a rack bag on my commuter and this would get in the way. I guess some kind of mod would be possible to rack mount it!

Just buy one of the front light packages and go for a separate light for the rear that will fit.

Yes i could do (in fact i already have a decent rear light), however looking at the kit i like the idea of having everything running off the same rechargeable pack
