First bike - what to buy?

Hi, I'm looking to purchase my first road bike, with a view to taking part in a triathlon in the future. I haven't been on a bike since I had my stabilizers removed a long time ago so have no idea what to buy. I have a budget of £700 maximum and somebody's recommended looking at the Boardman bikes. Also Viking but most threads are negative - any suggestions/thoughts would be welcome. Ta

In the ideal world, I would suggest that you find a second hand road racer on ebay or something and make it road worthy. Of course, while riding this you will soon discover what you want from a bike as well as pick up a few bike maintenance skills. The upgrading will be simple - as you will know exactly what you want.

However there isnt anything wrong with buying a great bike first time round - boardmans have great reviews
