Hello all, I'm looking for pats on the back ( or head )
I haven't done any serious cycling for about 8 years but this website has inspired me to get back in the saddle. In the last few months since being a member I have pimped my bike up and ridden every week.. just 20 or 30 mile rides each time.
We are off on Hadrians Cycleway next month and I promised myself I would do at least a 50 miler every week through June to prepare. It had been a worrying prospect as the people I am going with are a) younger and b) fitter. Today has given me a little more confidence as I dont feel bad at all. The ride was a mix of cyclepath, towpath and country roads with a few hills. I averaged 13.6 mph.
Thanks CycleChat and all you members for the inspiration

Well done, I like threads like this, I find them inspiring.

So a pat on the back for the 50 mile achievement, and another for also inspiring members on CC ^_^

Well done rollinstok! You've still got the rest of the summer to work towards a century :bicycle:
Missed that target myself today :tired: oh well, I'll have another try soon.

Never did manage a century even when I did a fair bit of cycling. Closest was 96 miles, but the campsite was there and I just didnt have anything left to do a little 4 mile circuit. Maybe sometime eh, never too late.
Best of luck on your next attempt.

A virtual pat on the head from me too - well done and good luck with the ride next month. After not getting much time out on the bike this spring, I've done 50 mile rides for the last 3 weeks in readiness for a local cycle event next week - today's was noticeably easier than last week's so the training obviously pays off as Enw.nigel says.
