Most tend to be flattish (apart from the ones described as hilly) but, please do not flat deceive you when you are blowing out of your backside even the gentlest incline can feel like you are riding Alp D'huez or some other "Hors" categorised climb. Then of course some person decides that it would be a good idea to plot a course that make prevailing wind conditions highly prevalent.

My Local TT course is deemed flat and it is with max elevation at 100 ft on a club run or other ride it would be easy but on some TT days it feels like I am riding on a penny farthing with my rear wheel attached to a piece of rope being held by Arnie in his hey day, up Mount Ventouz, straight into a force 11 storm, and the sun is so hot that it has melted the tarmac into something resembling the consistentency and tackiness of No-Nails extra strong.

But don't let that put you off the feeling after completing them, beating your PB and the endorphin rush afterwards is better than anything available on the street! ( i am guessing on the last bit)

No, but I'm hoping to ride it next week !
As long as work, family etc etc don't ruin my plans !

Clevedon is mostly flat but there are two inclines, both leading up to bridges of which you do each only once. As others have said, when you're busting a gut, they can be pretty painful. Look forward to seeing you there.

And you get strange blokes waving things at you at roundabouts.

and I got a HUGE lorry crawling behind me as I approached a roundabout (very considerate driver  who gave me plenty of time and space to get in the lane and get over the roundabout and just before taking his exit he sounded his very loud horn in a funny wolf whistle chime

Managed a time of 25:50 ............ failrly pleased with that, giving me a 6th place.

Well done to you as well, very good time there

Also thanks to Mons Remings and Nosaj

I did my first 10TT yesterday. I knew the course well as it's made up of a few loops and I cycle the loop when I go on my cycles.
It's quite flat 1/3 is rather flat the rest bends around the loop and the road is very uneven and it gets quite a lot of wind.

It was quite intimidating to begin with as it seems a very male orientated environement and was the only lady and there are no other ladies that do TT with the Club.
However by the end they did warm up to me and look forward to do more and better myself!

I did it in 35.18  these are the splits

Obviously I don't know the course, and it might start at the top of a hill, but looking at the splits (and assuming a flat course) you started off fast and then yo-yo(ed) to the finish. Better to start steady and build speed to maximum and then sustain for rest of course. Once you go beyond max into oxygen debt you get the yo-yo effect, where you change between fast and slow periods which isn't the fastest approach!

thanks tundragumski for the feedback much appreciated  The course looks almost like a chain link, it started on a short straight half a km? approx then around a sharp bend to the left then all the way down that road that is very uneven, bend to the left again to the initial straight. You are right though I did start fast, a bit of pressure there when everyone was looking lol  but I know what you mean I need to pace myself at a steady manageable pace rather than 'yoyo'. I ll try and keep it in mind for next time. Not sure when it will be as Im waiting for my club to become CCT affiliated as I cant enter any more TT until that happens

Hi mate, sorry, missed this post. Id did ride that night and I'm there most weeks with vastly differing times! My best on that course was my first of this year - 24'49 but came well down the rankings the night you mention.

Were you with the Strada chaps?

I did my first 10 mile TT 6 weeks ago..... a whole 2 days after my first ever ride on a Road bike ! Its seriously addictive and 6 weeks on I have reduced my time from 31.34 to 28.03 so am quite chuffed.... starting to feel at home on a road bike now after 8 months of regular mountain biking!

my local course is a steady rise up on the out leg ( with a few undulations ) I'm getting used to it now and am able to pace myself more....

I'm definitely finding it beneficial if I can see someone in front to chase down.... or when the faster guys on TT bikes come by to see how long I can stay with them ( but some do come past sounding like a Star wars Jet fighter.....:laugh::bicycle:

In case anyone's there, I'll be doing my first 10 mile TT this evening on J2/1 (Chelford). Look for the git chugging along on the CrossTrail (hybrid), and take pity. 32 minutes is the goal.
