I think a lot of us, myself included, tend to focus on the physical side of the activity and underestimate the recovery side. When I've done this I tend to burnout. I suppose it's down to listening to your body and trying to find the right balance of exercise and recovery that works for you without losing form.

Also for me it forces me to acknowledge that I'm not as young as I used to be or think I am!!

Im a newbie, but even after 3 months i have learnt so much but learn loads every time i go out. I tried a new route yesterday, hillier than my standard ride, but really struggled for the 1st 3 miles. Then it all just started getting easier even though the gradient wasnt, and i just dont think i was warmed up enough, Ive got too fixated with beating times on the start of my route that im over doing it before im warmed up. Lesson learnt
