It's nearly five months since I came off and I have done a few ten minute sessions on the trainer but I managed to get out for the first time today.

All left turns (!) and only 3 miles in about 13 minutes.

I was exhausted, pouring with sweat, and heart rate reached 190 bpm!

There's a long way to go but that was a psychological victory and thank you all for such tremendous support.

Well done, a good start:okay:

Can I ask what happened when you say you "came off"?

Good to hear you are back on your bike.
Build it up gently. I found it frustrating knowing what I was doing before my break and how knackered I felt after what were now short distances, but it does come back.
You might have an uncomfortable night too if there has been some rubbing on the metalwork.

Extremely useful comment! I am getting odd and quite acute pains after walking and wondered what it was. Did not realise (naive and a half) that the rubbing could irritate me.

Your physio may be able to give you a better idea if it is rubbing, or the effect of the metalwork in the bones, but I have been told by my physio that only a scan will determine it one way or the other.
For ages after my break, I would regularly get weird pains in the bad leg; sometimes around the knee, (which was undamaged), but more commonly coming up the leg from the knee. (Particulalry when walking). I can still recreate the latter and try to avoid it, but it is not always possible.
