... I've gone clipless. Got some used dhb road shoes off a friend to try clipless pedals. Bought some shimano pd 540 spd-sl pedals from CRC.

Just been out to fit them and leant against the wall to try. Found them very stiff/tight to unclip even on lowest tension setting. I imagine the cleats need to wear in slightly?

Need to go on a test ride at some point before Sunday as its my first club ride then and don't want to be making a fool of myself having clipless moments lol!

I have the same pedals,(on the lowest tension like you) I find it better if I unclip when the pedal is at the bottom, just give it time and you will get use to them, I kept looking down to clip in, now 90% of the time I clip in 1st time.

Did notice was a lot better with the pedal to the bottom and also feel weird getting in them.

Good luck with yours.

Chris

Good luck with yours to Chris. You still over on the photography forum too? Recognise the username. I've just sold my kit to fund a new road bike now the bug has bitten.

Hi Reece,

Yes, still over there, but don't go on much. Tend to use a facebook group - UK Photographers - me and Stew (Artona) set up.

I think if I sold my gear, I might be able to afford a very good bike! But, no photography is still a love, if a little cold at the moment, sort of lost my mojo. Thinking of going up to Lakeland Photographic Holidays for a week to get my mojo back. Trouble is, I might want to take the bike as well!!

Best regards

Chris

Give them plenty of time, it took me a fair while and a couple of falls to get used to. Oil the mechanism on the pedals and don't expect to get it straight away. Having said that it is well worth the effort.

I have the same pedals on one of my bikes, they will probably loosen up a little. I have more trouble clipping in than out. It will become more natural to you after a short while.

I am waiting for my pedals to arrive ( the shoes arrived and the pedals will follow)
Hoping to get the hang of them.

Reece let us know how the club ride goes

Well finally got to try them earlier. Quick 3mile down the great central way and then 3mile road route back.

I found them good when pedalling but very irritating when unclipped at lights etc. clipping out was easy, but pulling off from lights I struggled to clip back in. Feet were slipping all over the pedals and didn't feel safe so ended crossing at pedestrian crossings. May be cause roads/paths were damp.

Also the back edge (mechanism) was always downwards, imagine This is due to the weight distribution of the pedal.

Anyone care to share their experiences of techniques on clipping back in?

I've been using SPD-SL pedals for a few months now, I still can't clip in without looking down and fumbling about :cursing:
