I am left wondering whether anyone here goes to the cinema or watches films other than kids' films on DVD... has anyone else seen enough good films this year to make a Top 5?

I love foreign films but rarely get the chance to see anything these days unless something good comes on Film4 or the SkyIndie channel late at night.

children's films as follows:

KungFu Panda (one for everyone)
The Girl and the Fox (managed a little nap through this one)
Wall-E (had to leave fist 5 minutes - too scary)

No, in short. Whenever I've looked at the listings both for the multiplex and the independent cinemas near me, I've seen very little to interest me.

So hardly anyone likes films or music... what cultural interests do people have here? Basket-weaving? Country-dancing? Poking animals with sticks? xx(

No, I do like films. I just haven't seen much to tempt me of late.

I *loathe* radio 4! It's virtually dripping with self-satisfaction at how clever it is.

Mrs R puts it on for the sole purpose of winding me up. It works.

Eh? Music. Many of the threads here seem to be about music and there's that chain thread that I don't understand what it is about.

We go pretty regularly but I've been very unimpressed with 2008's films! Hard to think of good ones I really really loved.

Dark Knight was v good.
I loved Mamma Mia. It made me very happy and I sang all week.
Really liked In Bruges.
Liked Atonement, particularly for the dresses.
LOVED Juno.
But the winner for me has to be, without any shadow of a doubt....SEX AND THE CITY! Sorry guys but I adored it.

Biggest disappointment...Quantuom of Yawn.....

I could probably compile a list of films that I wanted to see but didn't...xx(

Dark Knight was a big let down. I wouldn't bother watching it again.

Iron Man was a hoot though. I enjoyed that! :becool:

I was thinking why I don't go to arty little cinemas and watch obscure israeli movies any more, or get free john luc godard vids from the library (and put gaffer tape on the bottom of the screen so I can enjoy them in the orginal without the subtitles).

The answer is staring you in the face FM. It's the internet that has shortened our attention spans and lengthened our expectations.

Look at my location

we have two ten screen multiplexes here. Each week they seem crammed full of films with Bruce Willis shooting things or some poor rom com.

Managed to get dragged out by Mrs OTH to see some Romcom (just had to google it as I could not remember anything apart from Jeff Bridges in it) - How to make friends and alienate people. Give It a 6 out of 10.

Years ago there was what I would call thinking comedy (Life of Brian, Woody Allen stuff) but now comedy films seem like a 2 hour sitcom.

War films are rather boring and really nothing else seems to float my boat - only film I really fancy seeing is Slumdog Millionare.

Sounding like my dad here but to take the Wife I seem to be £20 out of pocket for an hour and a half of average film and half an hour of adverts.
