Barry Lyndon was stunningly beautiful, as was 2001!

Several of my second and third elevens have been mentioned - North by Northwest (ultimate romantic escapism) and Cape Fear (although I prefer the de Niro version... come to think of it, I also preferred the remakes of King Kong (both) and The Getaway).

And a couple whose popularity baffles me - Platoon (far inferior to Full Metal Jacket, if you ask me) and Man Bites Dog (as Belgian films go, Toto the Hero seems to me to be about as good as it gets).

Platoon and full metal jacket were two different films really,i liked them both,it would be hard to say which one is better for me?

And my metrosexual entry:

Moulin Rouge – a cinematic delight.

I really hated that movie. I thought Ewan MacGregor's terrible singing was going to make my ears bleed and I had no idea what was going on. I was completely off my tits, mind .

Good ones. The Gael Garcia Bernal connection has made me realise that I forgot the wonderful Y Tu Mama Tambien....

and I forgot 'Goodfellas' and 'Spirit of the Beehive'! ;) oh and Michael Mann's 'LA Takedown' (a TV movie he remade as 'Heat') isn't half bad but not in my top 10. 'Blue Collar' is good too..

Actually the lists above make it plain how many times classic films have been remade and that almost everyone here prefers the originals: The Ladykillers, Italian Job etc...

Withnail & I
The LoTR trilogy
Star Wars
Ice Age
Zoolander
Moulin Rouge
Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey
Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure
Pee-Wee’s Great Adventure
Rocky Horror Show

Honourable mentions to Some Like It Hot, Destry Rides Again, Spinal Tap and Apocalypse Now.

And Holy Grail, Reservoir Dogs, Dusk Till Dawn, Desperado, Labyrinth (yes, the one with David Bowie's trousers).
