Last January Stena offering £10 foot passenger fares between NI/Ireland & Britain. I didn't book at the time and was waiting to see if they offered it again this year but after seeing the price hikes, I doubt they'll be doing anything for a tenner.

This year they're offering free travel for Irish tenors, anyone who can sing 'oh danny boy' in full travels for nothing.

With Holyhead out of action until the end of March, they can keep an special offers away from the travelling public.

My daughter and granddaughter travelled from Lille to London in less time than it took me to travel from home in Poole to visit a friend in Bournemouth hospital using the local buses...

Prior to retirement my Dad could get from home outside Ashford to his office in Paris more quickly than he could get to his old office at Canary Wharf.

Ferry prices really bug me! Foot passengers and bikes should be so much cheaper!

We have relatives in San Sebastian so were looking at taking a ferry to Bilbao as foot passengers and taking the Brommies. This was several years ago, it worked out really expensive and it was no cheaper than taking a car ( we don't have one)

Bear in mind that with the (EDIT: longer) night crossings you are getting accommodation - that could be saving you $40* (or 70* in NED). Last 2 years the Harwich-Holland service has seemed fair value as a cyclist (cabin included - they're pretty comfy, and the time is right for a good night's sleep!)

*awaits inevitable price-quibbling counter-post ...

North Sea crossings make it a condition of booking that you either have a cabin, or you've paid for your seat.

Queried this and told that it was introduced as an extra safety measure, they know exactly how many are on board when sailing.
