Have to excuse my ignorance here. Looking at the specs for various bikes I see mention of "fender mounts" What are they?

Mounts for mudguards?
Although they do normally say mudguard mounts over here in the UK. But dont Americans call them fenders?
They are basicly just places on the drop outs to bolt full mud-guards to so you can have them. Without them, you would have to use clip on ones.

Or bodge with P-clips, which is quite do-able.

I've never understood why Americans call them fenders either. But then I don't understand a lot of things about many Americans...

When you said Fender, I thought you meant

LOL. Just like (an) MP to start a transatlantic issue ;)
I'm starting a campaign to keep things British.

So, anyone calling a brake disc a rotor, I'll send Arch round to sort them out.

Which is interesting as in the USA fenders (on a car) are what we in the UK would call Bumpers (aren't they??)

No. It's a misconception. Fenders are what we call a wing which originally was just a mudguard-shaped thing that was mounted directly over the wheel. Over time they morphed into body panels

Well that explains it.

Although the Americans are still wrong about so many things. I just read a book in which the narrative described Salisbury Plain as 'the prairie'...

I was looking for a short pair of racing FENDERS in ALUMINUM or plastic that REPLICATES the COLOR of ALUMINUM

Not SKS raceblades, the old type just to keep the cr*p off the brakes
