What the actual ****?

To the small minded people who have made similar comments to the one above, what's wrong with you?? It doesn't do any harm to anyone does it? Yes it might be a bit 'out there' and look odd, but so what?? Really, if they are happy then so what?!
Live and let live I say!!

The lack of facial expressions could be a problem for some, but for others, concealing their true identity can be a thrill, like the wearing of masks dating back hundreds of years ago to go to the theatre, festival, party, etc etc, even if the disguise wasn't always great (think of the Carnivals in Venice for example), to those who find it a turn on like in the film mentioned. It could even be out of necessity to hide some sort of physical deformity/injury - Phantom Of The Opera or a Pirate's eye patch anyone?

I just think it is an innate hard wired desire in the human nature of some to be something they are not/to deceive/to alter their body or appearance, be it with makeup, hair dye, a wig, a simple piercing or tattoo right up to, say, a sex change/or a delve into the unknown like that woman who looks like a Cat/Tiger!
Heck even kids like to enter this world of make believe and have their faces painted, dress up in old clothes, wear their Mum's make up etc etc, or wear disguises at Halloween, albeit for fun, but do you remember being disappointed when someone who wouldn't have known still recognised you behind your mask?

Yes there is sometimes a criminal element, but really, on the whole, GET OVER IT EVERYBODY!!

....... You could even more than adequately argue that clothing is a form of masking for a lot of people, and that it is quite unnatural in its own right!! (Despite the weather).
Didn't mean to cause offence MDB, but I genuinely think that the man in that trailer looks quite scary (but then I find men with bushy beards quite scary too), and comes across as quite disturbed.
There's a fine line between embracing the fact that we're all different and accepting harmful psychological illness as "the norm". I think that fellas is ill.

You're right though, he's not doing any harm to anyone else. Food for thought.

Watched part of the programme, slightly unusual
Fair play to them, it's their lives

I was not particularly bothered by it, but the suggestion that it is all innocent fun I find hard to believe, the old fella most certainly seemed to be aroused by taking photos of himself.
I can't even say I'm particularity bothered by this being a fetish. But imho if your going to make a lifestyle choice you should have the bravery and conviction to stand behind it for what it is and not try to portray it as something else.

I also think there's nothing wrong with having sex with a washing machine, train food trolley or any other kind of machine. Mechoeroticism innit.

...accepting harmful psychological illness as "the norm" ??? it's the 'harmful' bit I'm struggling with Sara.

that fella may well be ill from some points of view, but some points of view can't think outside their little box of 'normality'. Abnormal isn't necessarily 'wrong' in my book. Once upon a time, being gay was considered an illness/crime that needed to be dealt with by cure and/or punishment... but we've moved on from those dark days.

You're right, being different from the norm isn't the problem, or indicative of illness in itself. But I think we've become too ready to accept that sometimes people such as the man featured in the clip I saw are using fairly extreme measures to mask serious psychological problems, to me the man in the clip came across as quite disturbed and unwell and needed help to come to terms with what ever he's masking. Though of course I'm not a psychologist, and not an expert in such matters. He didn't come across as a happy man.

I agree with what you say about homosexuality which within my lifetime has gone from being viewed by the main stream as a generally unacceptable perversions to more or less accepted as nothing out of the ordinary. Likewise transgenderism.

I hope there's a sense of concern rather than condemnation coming from my posts.

Yes, but does it really do any harm?? He gets off with photographing himself.... And?

You know what, these people might possibly have something wrong with them, but then, so does probably the majority of the population who are considered 'normal', and hey, you don't know what goes on behind closed doors, do you!!

They might frighten the occasional person with their appearance, but until maskers start going out and murdering, raping people, robbing banks etc, I see no real problem with it.

I don't dress like that.

.... Or do I??

I was just commenting on some of the downright bizarre responses such as 'feeling sick', etc etc.

(but then I find men with bushy beards quite scary too)

That could probably be described as disturbed in its own right!!
There's nowt queer as folk you know!!

Exactly.

It does no harm and as I stated, I'm not particulary bothered by it. However I feel that by trying to portray it as innocent play makes it seem a little seedy and shameful, he should be strong enough to say he is stimulated in this way as failure to do so encourages observations and comments such as those made in this thread
Having said that, it is easy for me to say things like this as a outside observer who does not have people judging me. I find it all a llittle odd but ultimately if that's how people find happiness who am I to suggest they are not entitled to it.
Everyone deserves to find happiness in what ever form that is imho
