Hi all,

I live in North London but do have a car so can drive...

Looking for some events, companions etc to ride with some weekends.

I could join a local cycle club but the ones i have seen are either too sporty for me or dar i say it too slow and meandering!

So looking for suggestions on routes etc.

I think you might want to give an indication of the pace you;re comfortable with and the distances you;re interested in, It's hard to imagine there's not a club in North London and the surrounding areas that won't be right for you, the larger clubs should run rides of different paces to cater for different levels, and they usually will ride ot the pace of the slowest

There's always the regular Sunday rides that leave Hyde Park Corner (Wellington Arch) at 9.30ish. This is an easy paced ride for coffee somewhere in London (Richmond Park, Ally Pally and Greenwich feature frequently).

There's a spinoff to that called the ride for food, check in the informal rides section. This is a bit quicker and at least 100 miles. I think the May one is going to Cambridge and back.

And then of course there is the legend that is the Friday Night Ride to the Coast, again it has threads in the informal rides section.

Oh and Welcome!!! :welcome:

I'm in Cheshunt and I would be interested if you're not planning 100+ mile days! the clubs around me are either just that bit too far to get to without adding quite a bit to the ride, too fast, or just seem to do 25-30 mile rides.
I do not ride fast by any means, 10-12 mph average suits me with faster bits and slow hills in between. that my be a bit pedestrian for what you had in mind.

In the SW we have long regarded North London (Hampsted Heath and all that) as odd - perhaps occasional is a better word in this context.

Seriously, there are several clubs that look interesting - Willesden CC, Gregarios, CTC Central London is quite sporty and is Chilterns oriented

in fairness to the Chlterns I discovered them when I became seperated ona ride at about 1am after a reckless charge down a very long steep hill in fog after a long slog in fog up something horrid calling itself Chinoor hill

after that it seemed to be almost entirely uphill

I'm too big and shoot at hills to do hills

Sounds like Sunday London Ride pace to me! By the time you've pedalled from Cheshunt and back you'd have a fair few miles under your belt. If we hit one of the parks we go a bit faster but we always regroup after a lap or two.
