Dont forget, its extremely hard for birds to feed in this weather.

Apples....blackbirds go mental with them, cut em in half and lay them cut side up (probably doesnt matter that much :birthday: ), they'll eat all the flesh out.

Poor birdies  Do your bit.....

I have been putting bread under the garden table over the last few days , it's been the only snow free bit of the garden. Robins and Blackbirds have only eaten it sparingly , which shows they are not suffering too badly.

We've been puting out fat balls, keeping the seed feeder and nuts topped up. Plus we have 2 bird tables with seed, fat scraps and fresh water each morning. No shortage of feathered visitors in the Beanz garden this year. Also been clearing the snow off a patch of soil for the blackbirds to get at each day.

It does make you feel good to think you might be helping to keep them going over the winter.

My neighbour does her bit by placing trays of seed throughout her garden. Needless to say our garden is now the aviary equivalent of Heathrow airport.

My missus isn't keen on me feeding the chirpers ever since she saw a rat (not a sqwirl) hanging off the nut feeder...
As that was some time ago, (and our furry friends seem to have "moved on" well, been dug dead as dodos out of the compost bin), negotiations are currently in process for the re-introduction of daily bird feeding, with the proviso that I have to make it my job to be @rsed to clear the table every evening....

I have friends who put out two plates of food for the badgers every night. The badgers get mashed potato, nuts and any other bits of leftover food. The birds also get nuts and fat balls every day too.
Sometimes it is like a restaurant in their garden.

I've got loads of feeders out but the birds are pretty thin on the ground this winter.

I'm on a concerted campaign to remove the squirrels - I wonder if that scares the birds off...

We have an oak tree nearby - the squirrels seem preoccupied with it most of the time, thankfully. A couple of times they've had a go at the nut feeder. One even carried on trying to open it as I walked down the path towards it - only gave up and scarpered when I was about a yard away!
