Fed up of occasionally being shouted at by motorists when taking the primary in 30mph zones

Just had the passenger of some dweeb shout abuse after he overtook me, even though I only took the primary because of a traffic island. Nearly caught the bugger up. I don't know why I get so worked up about this in particular, I guess it's just the assumption from motorists that they rule the roads. Nothing embodies this more imo than their objection to cyclists in primary position.

Anyone else experience this a lot?

Nope. Dont worry. We all get it

Just the other day, exactly the same situation, 30mph zone, traffic islands and I'm in primary.

This dude still decides to try and overtake.... kicking up dust between the lanes. I'm almost about to take extreme evasive action, as I look over to him. He's just dropped his phone onto his lap, and aborts the overtake just in time (before he hits the traffic island). I look back up and there is a police van hiding 100 meters away at the mini RAB

He overtakes between the islands before the RAB. I couldn't help but to pull in and grass him up. The police went off after him! :becool:

hehe.

BTW it was on Shirley high street again. That road is like a traffic island nightmare for cyclists. It's a lovely surface to cycle on though, nice and straight with a slight decline to pick up speed, you can easily match the speed of the cars even when it's quiet. And this incident happened when I was going downhill too! If you don't know the road, here it is.

Feel free to follow it down to the end. The incident happened about a quarter of the way down and I caught him up at Tescos. He's lucky the light was green just before the Hubcycle works LBS!

If you really want to wind them up just ...........

Smile and wave ......... :hello:

Thats all I do nowadays.
As I see no point in getting wound up by idiots.

Luck .........

I find that totally ignoring them is the safest option but must admit to having lost my temper on occassions.

After losing it I am more annoyed with myself than anything else.

Education of motorists is desperately needed on this and other cyclist issues ,we dont need compulsory helmets advanced stop lines or anything other than a bit of commonsense and courtesy from other road users.

It is nothing to worry about - as long as they do not throw things, drive too close or play other "games" - it is only about 1 in 20,000 -50,000 - and I have never worked out what any of them were saying anyway.

In contrast to the times it happens when touring abroad where despite not being able to understand the majority of the languages it is easy to work out that it is positive comment

I usually try not to let idiots get to me whenever I get shouted at from the passenger seats of cars.
The last idiot who did it to me a week ago did irk me somewhat though because as he passed me I noticed his car was fitted with a cycle carrier, complete with two bikes on it.

Some of the worse drivers round my way have bikes on the back of their car; they are heading for the Glentress Mtb centre. I bet the idiots have never been on the road :-(

Just get back on the bike and pay attention to the other traffic. If you think about it too much you'll never enjoy cycling.

Get the number and report it to the police.

With a statement from you, a traffic bobby will be more that willing to give them a Sec 59 RTA warning about their vehicle being used in an antisocial manner.

Get reported again and the car gets towed.

Not enough people do anything, so it is a very under-used piece of legislation.
