Rode into Manchester

I rode from Preston to Manchester a week ago last Thursday and ended up on a stretch of the A666 near Bolton Hospital... I just felt like I wasn't supposed to be there, it felt like motorway conditions and so I got off at the earliest opportunity.

Someone mentioned the sliproads, yep they are particulary dangerous so take good care!

My usual commute to work sees me going on an A road for a couple of miles but I am usually on the road at 05:45 so there is little traffic and as I do 12 hour shifts there isn't much on the way home either.

The A77 was a wee bit off putting, I have remapped my route to now go through Kilmarnock so as to miss out the 77 altogether.

Yes, I cycle on the A55, which is a 70 mph dual carriageway. I find it perfectly safe, as if you think about it cars doing 70mph on a 60mph windy B road that try and overtake you with oncoming traffic is a hell of a lot scarier!

Strongly agree. It's partly about traffic density - but I'd far rather be passed on a dual carriageway by an artic doing the speed limit than on a twisty minor road. Case in point, the road I commute along is single carriageway and twisty for much of its length but becomes dual carriageway for the last mile (into East Kilbride). The really frightening incidents have all been on the single carriageway sections.

If I have to, but I don't like doing it. I really hate going across sliproad entrances and exits.

I agree those are the bad bits - especially uphill.
