..... I may not be on this site for much longer. I've just realised that the tin of pilchards I ate for lunch had a 'best before' date of August 2005. How long have I got?

I'm not showing any symptoms yet but that's a classic sign of impending doom to a hypochondriac.

When your head starts to swim it's a sure sign of Pilchard poisoning.

Don't die a lingering painful death, open the drinks cabinet, and go out in style ;)

I have heard of people keeping tinned sardines and laying them down like you would wine. The oils dissolve the bones over time and the flavour is supposed to improve. They turn them regularly and keep them for many years before eating.

If yours were pilchards in tomato sauce then I'm afraid you're probably a goner ;).

They didn't taste great which is why I checked the date later. I've tried blaming 'er indoors for not throwing them away but she just laughed in a callous kind of way and started looking for the life insurance policy. My last act will be to gift my bikes in the manner of the book exchange. I'm off to the pub tonight to try to expunge the effects with large quantities of Harveys Ale. Desperate times call for desperate measures!

When my husband lost his job he was so skint that his mum made up a food parcel.in there was a tin of tuna that was 14 yrs out of date he and his flatmate at the time were so hungry they made a tuna curry then sat up most of the night making sure neither one of them died from food poisoning.
