It's just that it's much harder to pull it out than to rotate it; there's nothing to pull against. Hence the corkscrew idea. It works with bottles anyway!

Could you hang it up from (better still clamp it to) a sturdy beam, and dangle from the frame to twist while applying weight? Get Mrs Uncle Phil to dangle from you, if necessary, although I know neither of you is very chunky. Alternatively, attached some sort of ratchet strap, but that will only pull, rather than twist...
