Hi this is my first time on here and new to cycling. Have only done 2 days this week - 2 1/2 miles each ride. Hoping to do much more. Any suggestions on extra padding for the seat area!!!! Buying a new bike hopefully today wondering whether the good gel seats are enough :0)

Are you wearing padded shorts? I found those helped immensely but as its a new thing I think its natural to feel it a little.

No just normal shorts. My bike is my daughters old one so the seat is really hard. Hoping to buy a new bike today with a better seat.

Sure the seat will help, that said I thought my seat was wrong, but normal shorts just led to discomfort, I now wear normal ones over the cycling shorts and haven't had to change my seat. Best of luck!

Padded shorts are good. IMO they make a big difference:blink:

Padded shorts on a firm, but well fitting saddle works well.the big gel things will become uncomfortable very quickly.

This is really true...you'll feel like you've been sitting on a razor blade for a week or so but it's amazing how quickly your body (rear area!!!) will get used to it. Gel saddles will be more uncomfortable as the mileage increases (and it will over the next few months!!!). I know this sounds counter intuitive but it's true.
Have fun!

+1 for padded shorts, but you will also need time in the saddle to toughen your tender rear. About 120 miles should do it!
It can seem to take a while, but keep at and you will get there.
