One week on and, clearly, nobody has attempted to explain the difference between these various types of non competitive events. Anybody like to try and enlighten Spartak?

Ron, it was a tongue-in-cheek question !

I have ridden all 3 'types' ( inc. The Beast 3 times - Bronze, Silver & finally Gold ;-) )

All 3 types are just great days out on a bike !

In fact as I sit here tonight I'm enjoying a bottle of real ale in my 'Exmoor Beast Tankard'

Cheers Spartak and thanks for the clarification.

I agree all road events are great days out and the Exmoor Beauty will be another memorable and enjoyable experience.

I don't know about explaing here the things that make the various cycling disciplines different. What I do know is their similarities; they all make my legs hurt!!!

With temperatures being so bitterly cold at present, it's a wonder that any of us are even thinking about riding an early season sportive. However, over the past few days, there's been a surge of interest and bookings for the Exmoor Beauty. Approaching 600 riders are now signed up for the event (on April 21st.) and, with over 6 weeks to go before the on-line entry system closes, a much bigger field - than last year's 700+ - is now expected. Many of those who've already secured their place are from The Midlands and The Home Counties, so it looks like moving the event H.Q. to Tiverton is prooving really popular.

Thanks for pointing that out coffeejo. The website now correctly shows 2013 and displays the map and route profile.

"Only" 1000ft less climbing than the beast...this might be painful! Need to get some miles in over the next 5 weeks or so ;)

Yeh, but if you look at the profile, most of the ascents are in the first half of the ride. Coming back to Tiverton there's lots of rewarding descents; it's a beauty!!!

The website gives the height gain as 5,782ft and, althought that's collectively as high as an Hors Category TDF climb, it's all in douable chunks. Come on L.A. you can do it!!!

Interesting... Out of curiosity, what's the cut off point for finishing? And what's the earliest time we can start?
