Hi Mark.

To be fair, many will be like that on a given day.
In chain stores that's usually how stressed staff cope.

Start to walk out of the shop with the item. You will certainly get attention that way!

That's exactly what went through my mind too .

+1, helps that most of them seem to be into their cycling. One had/has a broken collarbone but is still working.

Yeah, I think his name is Craig, I was served by him when I bought my roadie a year and a bit back, I see him commuting in on Saturday mornings quite often as I'm headed the other way. Nice guy, was talking to him today, a bus clipped him and he broke his collar bone, his arm was in a sling today.

The staff in Manchester Deansgate are on the whole very good and they have gone above and beyond the service I would have expected more than once. They have assembled items bought from elsewhere for free before, cant get much better service than that.

I use both Brighton & Crawley Evans stores, had to wait several times at the Crawley (Gatwick) store as it's been busy, but have alawys been acknowledged while waiting.
You'll get good, bad & totaly useless staff in any shop you go, because the staff are human & with all the faults that go with it.

Yesterday I was out on the MummyBike, not ridden her for quite a while, stupidly I didn't give her a check over before setting out with #2 in tow. Felt heavy going, but just put that down to #2 being lazy & not pedalling. Realised halfway there my bcak tyre was a bit flat & of course my pump wasn't attched to my bike like it should be Grrrrr at #1 son!!
Anyways pushed rest of way into Brighton, Called into Evans with the idea to get new pump, was approached within a few minutes of entering shop, explained situation to chappy, who happily checked both my tyres, even removed a couple of teeny glass bits from the groves in the tread & pumped them up for me - No charge, no need to buy a pump

Working in central London Evans is an easy option when needing parts or tools. Lot of the staff lack cycling knowledge and plenty don't have the english to compensate. Last visit was ffor a BB remover. Fortunately I know the difference between a BB remover and a crank extractor so I was able to decline the part proffered and point out the correct one - but it was hard work!!
