Assuming all branches are of a similar ilk to the Gateshead branch, any beginner looking to buy a first bike could do a lot worse than using Evans Cycles.
I bought my bike there two weeks ago and I received friendly helpful advice from a very knowledgeable member of staff. I came away knowing I'd got a bike suited to my needs and not The most expensive model they could palm me off with.
Over the past couple of days I noticed a bit of slippage when moving up and down the cassette. I rang Evans this morning and they had me in in half an hour and fixed it immediately.
All this and a free six week service all adds up to a really decent buyer experience, and in my opinion.

Thanks,

Mick

Only been in one branch, that was in Crouch End, found the staff very pleasant. and not bad on some of there pricing.

Evans are good and knowledgable but they only seem to stock the expensive items in my local branch and you have to order the other cheaper items on line, this then leads to the problem of having it delivered to store, I had to ring them to check it ad arrived, four days after the due date as no one contacted me....

Think same as everyone else, good and bad points, they price match so that's a big bonus though

I think that it's dependant on the actual shop as my local only seems to cater to the cheaper end of things but a 15 minute cycle and you'll find another Evans with a more upmarket range.

They never have chamois cream in Bristol, and the staff all seem to forget about me - I guess because I have my bike with me when I go in...so wouldn't be buying one then. As a result on at least one occasion I've used them as a changing room for online retailers

I've only used Evans for price matching. Cycle surgery is waste of retail space lack of stock at times. In the right location it works but other than time erghhhh

Now I support my lbs.

Here in Crawley we are lucky as we have two Evans stores, one in the town and one at their main warehouse in the Business area, so between them you can get most bits and bobs you need.
I have found the service in Both outlets to be good with staff seem keen and knowledgeable.

Agreed! Most of the shops are tiny and stock levels/sizes are really bad, had to order about 95% of what I wanted.

Supporting your LBS..... now that's a whole new topic!

The Victoria and Spitalfields CS branches are a decent size. My Giant came from CS, as they were the only place to have the right size at the right price

I wouldn't choose to buy a bike from Evans. But they are good for kit and stuff

How comes?
Because of the amount of use its going to get and the savings I'll make on NOT having to buy a TravelCard my budget for this bike and accessories is fairly decent.

At first without a shadow of a doubt I was going to buy it from an LBS. After about a month of frustration I had to concede that unless your going to buy a stock item an LBS is not the place to go.

Sorry I so wanted it to be different!
