Not sure depends on prices at the end of the day.
Most LBS only sell at RRP through cyclescheme due to having to pay 10% of the voucher cost to be in the scheme.

It may be good for seeing the bikes upclose and personal.
I know my LBS holds very little stock and it's a bit of a ?? whether I should be asking them to order bikes in to look at.

On another note I have suggested to our Trust to maybe find a few LBS to recommend for Cyclesheme. I feel this will give us better pricing. As it is we have had 30 odd people sign up and lease a bike in 9 months.

Any ones local you recommend ?
They seem to plug City Cycles and Northfield cycles. I like Harborne Cycle Surgery though.

Is Birmingham and the surrounding areas not really a cycling hotspot ?

On a normal day I will see what 2 or 3 cyclists in the hour and half commuting.

I find City Cycles ok, but a bit too pressurising for me.

Northfield Cycles is ok as well, depending on who is in the shop.

Harborne Cycle Surgery is great. Trevor has a great competition reputation and really knows what he's doing with repairs.

Selly Oak Cycles is supposed to be good, but I've never been in there.

Red Kite in Solihull have a huge range and are a good store.

Bike Pro in Kings Heath are another good one. Reasonable range of stock, and they've ordered odd stuff in for me before now.

Sprocket Cycles are good but not a dealer -he fixes up Dawes seconds (or used to) and sells them on at a discount.

Cycle Surgery in town can be useful, but they're expensive. Not as snobby as I thought they would be.

My view of On Your Bike is mixed, depending on who serves you. I've had good help, but also that slightly condescending attitude at another time.

Don't forget Scott's Cycles in Hall Green. Been in business for 105 years this summer.

If the Evans staff at Canary Wharf are anything to go by, I'll apply for a Job at the Brum branch.

I see loads more than I did 12 months ago.

The student areas are crawling with them, as is the city centre.

There are loads on the towpath in the morning.

They must be the Selly Oak Mosesly side of the uni then.

I maybe see 1 or 2 in the mornings coming down to the Hospital.

I just refuse to believe that there's enough demand to keep an Evans going in Brum! I would love to be proved wrong though...

On the topic of rents - think about where all the empty units are appearing in Brum and the affect of the Bull Ring centre on retail space costs. They will not be paying a 'premium' to be on a back street off New Street, after all if Maplins can afford it (they always go for cheap premises) then so can Evans.

There's the one on old square with snow and rock.

The new Halesowen cycles is much better, too. There's also on yer bike in Digbeth.

For servicing, Trevor Bull at Harborne is yer man.

You seem to know a fair bit about bike shops around brum, Where would you go for some pedals and cyclying shoes? my knees seem to be aching after a lot of riding so want a bike store that will be able to properly size me and my bike up with a decent set of pedals/shoes on my bike as apposed to a bike set up in the store, and preferably somewhere that is generally reasonably priced?

Thanks, and sorry to go off the point of your orginal post

Scotts of Hall Green is my local and I can't fault the place! It's the sort of LBS that has a wimwam for a gooses bridle and will tell you exactly which year and which whitworth guage you need too - fit it, service it and engrave it with your portrait if you ask nicely. They're great, and the customer service, willingness to chat, order exactly what you want without sucking their teeth and trying to get you to order the expensive version, is second to none!

The only drawback is that they certainly haven't implemented the no smoking in the workplace directive as the place is like the fag testing room at Imperial Tobacco!

I like the idea of Evans in town tho as it will drag me away from spending money on clothes in Selfridges in favour of spending it at |Evans, and when Mrs JP goes in to Primark I'll have a safe haven to escape to with JP junior.
