I've always enjoyed the coverage on Eurosport, particularly Dave Harman's commentary with Sean Kelly alongside him. The early coverage of this year's tour, howevr, has been a little patchy for me. Coverage keeps jumping around a bit randomly; for example only just catching today's intermediate sprint. Plus the highlights has shown the roll out from the start, covered a few interviews and presentation of the jerseys afterwards. This year that seems to be missing. I know the coverage is in the hands of the host broadcaster, but it's still annoying. To make matters worse, Sky+ seems to be all at odds with the schedule for the highlights show and every stage so far this year has had the start or finish chopped off. Gripe over, maybe it's just me, but as someone who relies on the highlights show after work, I hope I don't end up missing the crucial bits of what has the making of an interesting Tour.

ITV4 has the answer

I got a bit miserable about the patchy coverage of the Giro - coming home to more tennis than cycling on some evenings.

Although I think the Dave and Sean show is great - the promise of regular (or should i say predictable) coverage has swung it for me this year with the TdF

Since re-tuning I can no longer get ITV4 (apparently it might be back in the autumn when the Wrekin transmitter will increase the power of the channel) and I haven't got satellite

You can get high lights and live coverage from the ITV4 website (ITV Player) - you just need to give them your email address (although I seemed to be able to watch it before I received confirmation)

This is less useful during the work day

Well the women's world cup meant Eurosport's highlights show is not on 'til late tonight meaning I switched to ITV4. As with last year's tour ITV's overall coverage seems a little slicker plus they seem to top and tail the coverage with some decent interviews. Harman's commentary still edges it for me tho' so have clogged up the Sky+ box by pressing series link on both in order to pick up the best of both channels :-)

Harman/Kelly are far better than Liggett/Sherwen. Too many old cliches rolled out on ITV4, and far more adverts, distractions from the racing, and so on. Plus Kelly REALLY knows what he is on about, and seems more up to date and involved than Sherwen.

Freesat?? ITV4 is there, free of any terrestrial problems, and once installed (not too expensive) you'll not go back to land based stuff.

We have to listen to his oh so monotone delivery but do like the information Kelly can provide.

If you want monotone, wait till McCrossan is on....

Watched ITV4 last night and it reminded me why I much, much prefer Eurosport. I think it superior in every way. Ah, except the timing that PBH mentioned above.

Fortunately I can receive Eurosport because I need satellite to get BBC1 and ITV1! I live in a black hole where regular TV reception looks like tv in the '50's - lots of snow and in black and white!!!

THIS !

I got fed up with eurosport`s unpredictable coverage of the classics and giro that i would rather watch itv4.

I do not care if the actual coverage is as "good " as long as i can actually watch the programme rather than something else they decide to show instead.

I can tolerate the ads.they pay for the transmission afterall. But Sherwen has got the wife thinking I've developed
Tourette syndrome.

Just out of interest what's the ITV4 HD coverage like? Not a sky customer here, but curious.
The coverage of the race is excellent from a visual perspective but ruined by Sherwen's incessant blabbering. Liggett I can tolerate but I lsten to any other available tinternet commentary in any language in preference to Sherwen's claptrap.
