So I keep moaning in my head that COVID19 is taking over the forum, the news and many other things. So I'm going to be a right hypocrite now by raising another COVID19 post!

Most of us saw the Strava Reindeer undertaken just before Christmas and many similar attempts. I expect some of us were inspired by this and would like to do their own this year. The NHS guidance this morning still allows solo bike rides yet advises when doing so you should be minimising time outside the home as exercise is classed as an exception.

Careful, it could go viral...

Do it, I'm still on the bike for both exercise and work, although I am working from home and the cycling in for the post is just a good excuse to get out on the bike a couple of times a week. As long as you can do it close to your house and not coming into contact with anyone, I don't see why not.

I'm in the do it camp.

Risk assess it first - if you won't come into contact with others, are prepared to sort yourself out in event of mechanical failure, and maybe have a partner willing to come collect you in the worst case (thinking crash or non repairable mechanical), the risk of contracting corona virus or passing it on to others is basically the same as if you'd stayed at home.

Use common sense and don't head to the local beauty spot, view point or trig point, stick to routes you're confident will be quiet.

I'm still riding atm on this basis, mind you that's in rural Westcountry where I don't normally pass more than two or three people on a forty mile loop!

For me the mental (and physical) health benefits outweigh the negligible risks involved in following the above procedure, and as far as I can make it it's also fully compliant with government guidance.

Going to Tesco's is probably riskier by a factor of x1000 or so...

Exactly, the supermarket run is probably the only real opportunity for the me to come into contact with the virus.

I would read the other threads on Coronavirus and cycling first. I think you'll find the majority feel two hours or so is the right balance between exercise and pleasure.

As has been said if it goes viral you risk creating a poor impression of cycling in general and may personally come in for a lot of flak.

You're clearly unsure if it's the right thing to do or not. If you were convinced you wouldn't be asking for collective approval. You're not the only one who's a bit fed up.

Great idea, terrible timing.

Personally I don't see a practical issue if it's undertaken with the same precautions as any other ride in these times.

On the flip-side I can appreciate where others are coming from re. the PR ramifications; it would be easy for some scumbag with an anti-cyclist agenda to spin it as un-necessary / frivilous / irressponsible; regardless of the truth of the matter.
