Here's me with a big cheesey grin accepting my club's TT scratch championship trophy off Olympic silver medalist Harry Reynolds.
You lot are far too serious. People will keep calling you saddos if you continue as you are.

Make irrelevant comments - refer to people as "serious' in attempt to take peoples attention off the bullshit posted.

Flounce complete.

HR monitors do have their place during races. They can be used to pace the rider. Set the zones in tight clump from 85 to 95% max. Assess whereabouts on the course where your HR should be and stay in that zone for that part of the course.
The trick is to assess gradients, wind and how well you feel.

It may sound contra-intuitive to ride at a pace less than you are capable. There are reasons for this.
After your hour warm up ride, ideally including the ‘headwind’ part of the course, you should be making a mental plan of how you are going to ride that race.
You should know your own capabilities and adjust your effort depending on wind conditions in the sections of the course where going too fast will blow you out for the end.
In the final 1/4 mile, the HRM will be bleeping cus you’ll be over your 95%.

No-one was arguing contrary to the usefulness of HR monitors during a TT. What people are/were commenting on were you comments re absolute numbers and age.

Re. you club TT league win, well done, you obviously do have greater than most level of ability (when compared to others in the context of your club and probably much better than average in general), however that is not what was in question!
