Ergon GP 1 or GP3

Just wondered what you think.
I was going to get some new grips and I like the Ergon type but I've seen two that I like..

1/ Ergon GP 1
2/ Ergon GP3 with extensions..

The GP3 are nearly twice the money but I think offer more..

Go with what you feel comfortable with in your hand, if you can handle each grip in turn before purchase, then all the better. What might be suitable for myself, might not suit yourself, so in the end you'll be wasting your money under mine or anyone else's advice.

I had the GP1's on the carrera, very comfortable, but I saved money by buying some specialized bar ends in the sales

Remember the Ergon GP series come in different sizes for the same product

Before I commit myself to buying anything, I always read the reviews online about the product, I've been surprised at how low rated some expensive products have been.

I did try them out in a the bike shop and liked both, I did know about the sizing and I've measured my hand and its 84mm wide so a small would fit..
But I do take your point on the dearest is not always the best, but I just wanted other people's views.

Can I propose a 3rd option - one you probably won't know about - Ergon GP-1 grips combined with SJS's ergo comfort bar ends.
Excellent for comfort and a slightly cleaner, newer set is also fitted to my mountain bike and although I measure for the small grips, I actually have the larger ones fitted to both bikes without issue. They allow for slightly more handhold options (I think we came up with 5 different positions whilst on tour) and more importantly to me (with wrist & nerve issues on my left hand - think 11 ops over 15 years to repair wrist) allows me to position the bit that causes issues for my wrist (where the nerve bundle comes through the wrist) right over the hole so releiving pressure on the nerves for me).

PS - don'tw orry about the wear - that was nearly 15,000km of touring in 12 months that did that to them nothing more...
the right hand ergo grip is completely bald now and need replacing!

Strangely enough, I've just bought and fitted the ergon gp3s and i like them. Definitely alleviated the pins and needles.

The end plugs seemed ridiculously large and took me quite a while to sand down to the right size to fit. I bought the large size as I tend to be XL in gloves and they're just about right but I think the majority of people would want the smaller size. I've only done short rides, but they seemed quite comfortable for a slow hour on the bike.

I like the idea of those SJS bar ends though

the device known as a subtle persuasion tool works really well on those plugs... but those bars ends have been fab - best I have come across and both of us soon fell in love with them on tour...

They were sooo much too big for my bars, I sanded them down loads and then still had to force them in with a hammer, one of them looks a little battlescarred as a result My old MTB has bar ends and they really save my wrists, I tend to ride with my palms spread across the end and grip. I feel a bit like the handlebars on my giant are a bit narrow for my shoulders too, so nice to be able to stretch out right to the ends, I think im talking myself into them....

Got some GR2's (now GP3 apparently) on the heavy bike and love them. Really easy to adjust the angle of the bar ends separately to the main flat palm pad (or vice versa) and they are definitely the most comfortable grips I've ever used by a large margin. The bar ends are well worth having (or adding) for longer journeys or hills.

Those SKS bar ends look identical to Giant Contact Ergo bar ends too, which I had and also rate if they are to be added to grips, (can also be had for a fiver less than the SKS).

just reminded me that mine came with 2 sizes of plugs and now I remember I used the smaller ones....

Mine only came with the 1 set and in some recycled environmentally friendly packaging, maybe they're trying to save on plastic. When I googled it, it seemed a lot of people were having the same issue with the ridiculously large 1 size fits all type end plugs.

Just tried wiggle for the GP1's but out of stock till next month so I will have to wait. Will have a go at the SJS's in the morning but I'm not too sure on how much they will want for potage as its £3.50 for delivery in the UK.

Cost me £8 last Jan to ship to the island of Rhodes in Greece via SJS.

Just had a look and they look OK.. not a lot of difference to the SJS's and free delivery to Spain which helpes me..
Do you know if they have different sizes or is it one size fits all.
