Epic cycle commute failure, but I had fun.

Well done. I took a snow day yesterday. Didn’t attempt the 25 mike, each way, drive to work. Neighbour did and it took over 3 hours to get to work and 6 hours to get home. He isn’t going in today. Neither am I. Not worth it in my 20 year old Micra. I would rather lose the pay than risk sliding into a Lincolnshire drainage ditch.

Kids school is closed today! Wouldn't have happened in my day!

No problem, my walking boots, previously only used on the bike, turn out to be up to the job of serious walking in deep snow. Shame the owner could not distinguish where the pavement ended and the road begins, I nearly took a tumble a few times because the snow hid the gap.
That's the most difficult bit of cycleways in the snow. There are a few S bends which become invisible under snow and I can't even rely on earlier cyclists' tracks because MTBs will blunder across most things before turning to regain the hard surface. It's better if they use narrow tyres because they stop pretty quick as soon as they leave the track and I can see it

Save money, not having to heat the building.
True, a lot safer to let everyone know as early as possible to make other arrangements. I heard one guy from the roads complaining bitterly about the amount of people ignoring the no travel warnings getting into trouble and making the problems worse.

All events cancelled today and tomorrow (I work at an event venue) so went for another walk in the snow, just a couple of miles.
First, though, had to do some warm up exercise, not forgetting, of course, the wee birdies to feed:

This is what I would have to cycle in before getting to the main road, it's about 20cm deep, nice and soft snow, falling off wouldn't injure one
IMG_20180301_120046463.jpg I might clear myself a path tomorrow, got a shift on Saturday night. If it goes ahead, this time I will cycle it, using the cleared roads.
Yes, the main roads have been cleared during the night (well done SL Council) but there was no public transport today; as always, priority was given to car transport, walking today would have been hazardous for frail folks or those pushing children's buggies. You couldn't pull a grannies shopping trolley on those pavements!
At least, no cars sliding about, still a good few buried in snow though.
Contrary to yesterday, I did not see one cyclist today.

Most shops, offices, even banks near me were all closed.
The local Aldi was fully stocked, while the local Tesco had no milk, bread, hardly any fresh veg. I only went for a nosy and for cat food anyway ^_^
Since early afternoon it has been snowing quite a bit again, to the delight of the kids playing in the parks.

I've not even attempted to clear my drive yet as it's still coming down. Never ventured over the door once today but might have a go tomorrow but only to feed my wee birds.

Yiuppie, back on the bike today!
Well, there was no choice, trains are still off, buses limited.
I could have reached work by bus and some walking, but there was no way to come back after my shift on public transport.
Took the snow tractor as I did not know what the state of the roads would be, pushed the bike the first mile because I could not be bothered to stress with the junction where I almost got flattened a few weeks ago, then I found clean, dry roads all the way!
While, this is where cyclist are supposed to cycle and pedestrians are supposed to walk, note the contrast with the road.
Let's travel active, eh? IMG_20180303_133358778.jpg IMG_20180303_133416453.jpg

Exact same in the town centre Pat. Myself and Mrs Slick enjoyed a night out there last night, but couldn't believe how much snow and ice was still on the pavement. While heading back down to Argyll street, we and a number of others gave up and used the lovely safe black roads. It does tell you something about the council attitude to travel.
