Yes, horribly, but I wouldn't admit it on here because it would potentially place me in a position of perceived grammatically snobbery, which is a lofty position for which I lack the necessary skills.

I think the use of 'perceived grammatical snobbery' in a post on here proves otherwise ^_^

The distortion of the spoken word troubles me more often than the written - being understood by our fellow humans is the most important skill we possess, so I feel no guilt for becoming irked by lazy language which is potentially misleading to anyone outside of a colloquial cliche; because such chaff can be frustrating to decipher.

When you are requesting a sandwich in a restaurant named after a subterranean mass transit system you might wish to ask 'please can I get', but while your the theory of your request might be a scintillating ice breaker for your conversation with the server of the allegedly nutritious foodstuffs, if you ask 'please can I have' might minimise the margin of time between your vocalisation and the cramming of aforementioned nutritiousness into your pie hole.

I can't shout too loudly, my grammar and spelling leave little to be desired but if there is on thing that really makes my teeth itch is 'text' speak, please people there really is no need for it and it really does come across as immature. Leave it where it belongs, in the playground for pre-pubescent school girls to gossip about boys via bookface or whatever.

Yes. Although this is one of the better interweb sites, I think because most here are more, ahem, mature. For contrast look on just about any gaming forum. :cursing:

Does anyone else find themselves distracted from a post or conversation by the poor English?

For example:

"I could of avoided crashing"

"My breaks are braking"

I know it shouldn't bother me, but I get really distracted

Sorry, back to just browsing ^_^

Not nearly as much as I'm distracted by a lack of punctuation.
