If you want quick energy then jelly babies are great.

Forgot to mention those in my first post.

Almost as quick a mid-ride energy rush as gels and a lot cheaper.

On a long ride I sometimes get tired of lots of sweet things and those who ride with me know that I often carry these

which give a massive hit of fat and salt in almost jelly-baby sized bite.

Turkish delight? hmm will be giving that a try, for a 20 miler water and a banana or porridge before suffice however we are all different. Sports nutrition is incredibly important but also incredibly personal, so try different things (i know ive learnt a few here and will be testing them) and tailor make your own nutrition that works for you

Turkish delight stuck in my mind and nothing else would do and it started from there.

I got such an uplift from eating a couple of them, that when I thunk about it, I realised that it is almost a gel wrapped in chocolate and even the content is similar to a gel. The only problem is that with the chocolate outside, I cannot carry them else they would melt....
Might sound daft, but why not skip the chocolate-covered variety and grab yourself a box of rose and lemon cubes? Always on my dad's Christmas list

Thought about it, but it has to be Cadbury's, once something is stuck in my mind that it's performance enhancing whether it does or does not work in reality but I am of the opinion it does, then nothing else will do. Its psychological.

I once did a 100+ ride and for the last 60, I just thought of eating a pizza for my recovery meal as nothing else would do to get me ready for the big ride the next day, so soon as I got home, quick shower and wash the bike and out in the car to buy a pizza.

These are good value from High 5 for only £4.99, I think the proper price is well over £10, 11 sachets in total, 6 of them gels. I bought quite a few earlier this year for special occasions and still have a few left:-
