What's the most embarrassing fall you've had?

I remember many years ago, I was cycling home through rush hour traffic. Came to a large roundabout with LOTS of traffic, so decided to go onto the pavement to cross safely.

The kerb had been lowered and I was going really, really slow. Stupidly tried to go up the very small, lowered kerb parallel to it, ie. both wheels at the same time. I had old fashioned toe-clips on this bike, so I couldn't get my foot out of the pedal and just fell like a tree - 'TIMBERRRRR!'. I wasn't hurt, but I suddenly became aware of hundreds of people on this busy roundabout staring at me, laughing.

I think I went a different way home for the next two weeks.

Cycling across an aqueduct when I came up behind a lady with a baby in a push-chair. Not wishing to alarm her I slowed, dismounted, then stumbled and fell into the canal.

Thank G*d you survived to tell the tale!

One afternoon I was out tootling on my road bike when I came round a bend into a narrow road with cars parked all along the length of the right hand side of the road. An oncoming car showed no signs of slowing down and there wasn't enough road for the two of us so I made a quick left to mount the pavement.......and didn't! Fell off hurting my left elbow and both my knees. Kerb was far too high for such a 'sharp' turn of the front wheel. Why was it embarrassing? It was right outside a pub with huuuggge plate glass windows!!

As a side note....the punters seemed to be enjoying the 'entertainment' but not one person asked if I was ok? As for the driver.......long gone!

Having crossed a railway bridge on my commute home a couple of years ago, (I don't even usually go this way), I negotiated the pedestrian chicane at both ends, and this meant I was going very slowly, as I straightened up next thing I new I was on the deck.

It turned out a kids scooter had been dumped and I hadn't seen it in the dark, (Topeak Whitelites!).

Ok so it wasn't my fault, but it was still embarrassing explaining what happened to the doctor as he told me I'd broken my elbow

You can't ride through that bit, so when I came out the other side I tried the scooting cowboy mount. It doesn't work when you have SPD pedals...

Your clearly cycling all the time - naughty boy.

I normally ride a folder, therefore, step through frame. I got out the old mountain bike for a ride recently, stopped at a kerb with feet on the ground and tried to get off. I forgot the top tube was there, and kind of tripped over it, and fell in a spectacular pile on the ground with the bike.

Minutes after completing LEJoG and getting the photos done etc I was cycling back to my mate's dad's campervan which he'd kindly driven up to collect us in. For some reason I had my helmet and waterproof in my hand whilst trying to cycle along, came to a kerb, tried to hop up and went flat on my face.

900 miles in 9 days without incident and a stupid off to end the trip. My mate's dad (a seasoned cyclist) kindly pretended not to notice.

Well he's not lying about not being able to ride through that bit (the old library that is) in Birmingham. Can't tell if he was on the bike or not, still a rather embarrassing place to fall.

My own was at the start of a club ride. We all set off and someone cut in front of me to go in another direction with a different group. I was going too slow to get my feet out in time and over I went in front of about 30 cyclists.....

I was very fit, lean and tanned and I thought I looked so coooooool on my bike. It was a fine sunny day and I was on a lane coming to a T-junction with the A646 near Hebden Bridge. There is a slope up to the junction. A sports-car was ahead of me waiting for a break in the traffic to turn right. I wanted to turn right too, so I pulled up on the left side of the car and put a foot down. The car had its top down and there were two attractive young women sitting in it. I had mirrored sunglasses on and I knew they couldn't see my eyes, so though apparently looking straight ahead, I was in reality eyeing up the women. There was a gap in the traffic and the car started to inch forward so I pressed down hard on my right pedal and went to clip in my left foot. Unfortunately the uphill slope brought me to a standstill just as I got it in and I toppled over onto my left knee, still clipped in. The women drove off, howling with laughter ...

Was riding down from my fathers house to mine after picking a parcel from Wiggle.
The parcel was a bit larger than I thought it was going to be for the items I bought, so I had decided not took a rucksack to carry it in.
So I just put it into a large carrier bag and held it as I rode home (not riding one-handed BTW).
I know it was a bit silly to ride like this, but the bag was bulky rather than heavy, and I only had about a mile to travel on quiet roads, so I thought it would be ok.
I was tavelling bliskly down a slight hill when I dropped the bag, spilling my stuff onto the road.
As I did not want the stuff to be run over by any following cars, I panicked and applied the brakes hard.
Unfortunately a little too hard and over the 'bars I went in true superman fashion, much to the amusment of several ped's.
Luckily, me, my bike, and my stuff all escaped with only slight cosmetic damage.
I always take my rucksack now when picking up mail order stuff from fathers house. Lesson learned!

When i was working as a motorcycle courier i once had to go and take over a parcel from a colleague who had lost control of his bike getting back on it , it had topled over crushing him under the bike and as we later found out broken his leg - right infront of reception - oh how we laughed. I also had to once collect a parcel from the scene where another colleague who was very sadly killed .
