Looks great!

Just curious how do you find the drum brakes? I've never used them before are they ok maintenance wise etc, I assume so if the Royal Mail used them.
I've not done many miles, but they are OK around my relatively flat routes!

They still seem to be selling these and I've got a hankering for one. Fed up of going to the trouble of attaching a trailer when I could have a bike with a good-sized front carrier instead. Plus at the moment I don't have a bike with flat pedals for popping into town and it's annoying.

Mines’s not from Elephant Bike, but an ex Whistl one (they’re all Pashley Prontos) and they really are just the job for carting stuff around, doing the shopping and so on:

Well, delivered today but I'm at work so I've only seen a picture Ms.P. sent me on Whatsapp.

Will be dark when I get home so will put it together tomorrow.

Here it is

Test riding (with saddle too low)

It's a used bike- some parts are new, notably the bottom bracket, some re-used. One day I might have the wheels rebuilt- the front is in better condition than the rear, but for the use this bike will get I expect the current ones will last pretty well.

Rides very well with weight in the carrier, gearing is perfect, 1st is nice and low. Drum brakes work very nicely. Feels good to ride, and I don't have to put on SPD shoes to go shopping.

Due to a change of life circumstances, I really need to consider selling my large sized heffalump bike. Currently residing in Abingdon. I have no space in Deal to keep her unfortunately.
Please PM ME if interested.
Cheers FF

This is a great thread - and very useful ... I have my eye on a bike just like the one above (olive + front rack and plastic basket).

I'm just dithering about whether I need a wicker basket too.

Got a fairly cheap rack-mount rear blinky and a front blinky from eBay so I have lights now (be nice to get a wheel done with a hub dynamo/ hub brake but since most of the time it'll be short local trips it's hardly worth it, don't need lights to see where I'm going). Managed to fit the front blinky to the light bracket with a bit of bodging.

Done my first shopping trip in the dark.

Mine came with a front hub brake / dynamo and light. From: http://www.plantpedalpower.com/ I assume Whistl specced them as such. I don’t know if the guy I bought from does spares, or is prepared to split for parts, but may be worth asking him.
